Boat Launch Fees and Permits, State by State

Some boat ramps are free. Some charge a day-use fee. Some want a launch permit or a state sticker before you put in. The rules change by state and even by the agency that runs the ramp, so it pays to check before you tow.

What you might pay

Free ramps still have rules

A free launch can still need a fishing license, a boat registration, and a clean, drained, dry boat. "Free" means no launch fee — not no rules.

How to check your state

Your state fish and wildlife agency lists launch fees, permits, and AIS rules. On our ramp pages we flag a fee when the data lists one, but the agency is the last word. Find your state, open the ramp you want, and confirm the fee before launch day.
